I do like the idea of featured listing spots and im all for it. I do have a little doubt about it, that it will be expensive and only big developers will afford to use it but at least i will have the option to use it...as the saying goes "you gotta spend money to make money"
I also like 4U idea of being able to see "quantifiable data, as to what they are offering, and stats like how many people clicked on the link and how many purchased"
As others have said i really want to see the "hottest products" gaming the system stopped.......
Another biggy for me is the re-organization of the catalog and the ability to place your products in the correct category, also shoutouts in the client _________________

I don't see why the concept of paying to advertise seems like some kind of alien idea to you all. Not everyone will be able to afford it, that's true. I won't be able to afford it often, but if I have the opportunity I will take it.
I'm really resenting the idea that new creators don't deserve it or don't work hard. BS. _________________

I have mixed feelings about this idea. I think its a great way to improve sales, but at the same time, it does put the little guy who doesnt make much in the shadow of those who can afford it. I said something to a friend that pro creators would just put me in a box and ship me off somewhere for saying. I feel this should be changed to a featured items slot, picked at random, no cost, and it only shows those below the pro level. (Im a tier 5 so its kinda working against me) Itll give a chance to everyone out there, and anyone above pro level doesnt need that much help if they got there somehow. Itll help promote sales to those who are still underdogs, and kinda boost the community up a tad. Even though THAT can have downsides, its still a fair way to get things started. The real world does cost money to advertise, but in this day and age, money is tight. _________________

Pro creators are not rich. we all start out at the bottom. This option just gives people more of a chance to be seen, no matter what skill level. If you can afford to invest or you can't afford too. This honestly is about what you are willing to pay for developing, it has nothing to do with level.
I'm sick of people wanting hand outs. I had to earn my place here, it was not a free ride. _________________

| At least they are finally thinking about how to improve our advertising capabilities. This may not wind up being anything that anyone other than the big names can afford, but the survey also had categories for suggesting ideas. I've been proposing an advertising section at the head of our catalogs for two years now, where we could highlight our own best sellers or in fact hold 'sales' that we advertise there, and included this in my suggestions. |

I didn't do the survey yet, got the message this morning and I had to get kids off to school and so forth. I would be ok with it if we could use our useless predits that just sit there for most creators and real money also. I'm one because most of my sales are derived sales, I don't get to many dev tokens. I would also agree to it if, like Keef and others said, the gaming of the front pages of the catalogue was fixed so that gifting your item massively didn't count towards what the hottest items were.
I understand where Poly is coming from, that lots of people continuously bemoan the creator who ACTUALLY do well for themselves. Not all pro creators are cheats and actually a lot on here, like Poly, work damn hard and have put their money where their mouth is to earn their living at something they are good at. _________________

I am a pro dev and my deving barely pays for itself. I don't have any money in real life to spend to better my deving. I view this as just another way for greedy ole IMVU to get another buck and glorify those who have money above others (like with VIP.)
Yeah, yeah, "in real life if you don't advertise blah blah blah" but I thought the reason most people use IMVU is because it is NOT real life.
People already buy their way to the top of hottest products, there is your advertising right there. Why can't IMVU just add a random page to help out the little guys? _________________ Let IMVU know what they SHOULD do to make VIP BETTER instead of forcing it on Devs |

If it has to be, then I think this is the way it should go. Have it randomized between all the devs. This way everyone gets a piece of the pie, no matter their economic status, either in real life or on IMVU. It is in essence like the "Hottest Products" page, but without the ability to buy your way in. _________________

I think a lot of people need to get things into perspective here, your enemy with things like paid advertising is not individual developers, especially those that do well enough here to make IMVU their sole income. Individuals still need to live so while we might throw a large chunk at effective advertising, its not going to be beyond someone who want's to take the next serious step can do.
Then there's the teams, small companies, groups of friends that work together, many of these will buy up advertising too, but they are still small groups, usually specialised in one area, like clothing meshes, or Mocaps.
Over and above that is the big companies and some of these are very cashed up and would love a bigger slice of the IMVU pie, in fact they will grab as big of slice as they can.. just like we all would.. and just like they did in the past. What you need to understand is there's companies developing here with more than 100 staff, and millions in funding behind them, this game is just another game to them, and that game is taking money from your pocket and putting it in theirs, preferably via an Alt so you wont even know. _________________

Communism does not work, been tested and failed a few times... always looks great on paper, would be a very hard to do on a site that basically sells greed and vanity however. IMVU do give us EVERYTHING we need for free when we join. _________________

You just want something for nothing, and that is not the way business works. If you want to get to the top, then you have to invest. You can invest time and do it the hard way, or you can invest money and advertise your way up there. Or of course both. Fact is, no matter what the price it will always be too expensive for someone.
Also the whole point of advertising is that the overall gain outweighs the initial cost, so if your adverts don't do this then you are doing something wrong.

I have to admit that Im not happy with the whole idea, but that's only because Im a struggling dev that can't really pay for to much advertising. To be able to pay a couple of dollars for one brief ad would be great, it just isn't an option for me.
All I can see is the pro dev's getting all the exposure which they are getting anyway.
And how long will the queue be? If I have lots of money and want to advertise for a couple of months or a year then Im taking that spot away from others. So we save our pennies, go to do an ad and oh dear, no spots until Feb 2013.
I have lots of questions, it seems there was no thought about this.
With all the crap going on with ufi and ap and ga how is that going to impact it. If I advertise I want to show off my whole catty not just a few ga products. Will I get banned or can I not advertise ap items?
Just before mid year for last couple of years (including this one) imvu has done a sweep through the catty disabling dev's left, right and center. Isn't it better to get the rules straight so EVERY ONE knows them. Work on whats broken. Fix the failing client. There is so much more important things to be fixed in this place. Coming up with new advertising plans is stupid.
And I still have so many more questions. _________________
