Hello there! I don't really post on the forums, but I did read most of the RP sticky threads. Some of the descriptions were really long and I just stopped reading it. x-x; Anyway, I'm a several year role player, but I never tried to RP here on IMVU. I did a lot of role plays back on Gaia Online, so I know where my strengths and weaknesses lie at. I wanted to start role playing on IMVU to see how I would do. I just can't find an RP to join in or that makes me feel comfortable being there. I'm really into the fantasy-types of role plays out there, but I'm not sure where to look for one.
Anyway, I was also looking for some kind of mentor to help with combat styles. I'm horrible when it comes to describing fighting. It's always been my main weakness in RPing. I just feel I'm not descriptive enough or clear enough of where my character's moves land. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Also, if this is the wrong place to post this at, please forgive me. I really don't know which kinds of topics belong where. I do try to read everything before posting something, but sometimes I get confused on where to post. >< |

Welcome to the IMVU rp world, and don't worry about your post it is fine for you to have started a new topic to ask for help and advice. I'm sure there will be many here willing to offer up help.
Are you looking for a chat room roleplay or group roleplay (forum type) or does it matter to you?
If your not great at rp fighting then you don't have to be. There are tons of roleplays out there where your character doesn't need to fight. There are also lots of people out there that will be willing to help you learn. _________________ CandyApple or PoisonApple, Which would you choose? |

Hey Celtic! Thanks for the reply! To answer your question about chat room or group role plays, I'm willing to do both. I never tried chat room before, but I know how to use forums for RP. I want try and see how chat room RP's work out for me. It's just another way to figure out if I can do it or not. But again, I'm willing to do both.
I still want to know how to get more descriptive with how my character fights another character. I dislike bland and plain text that doesn't give a good feeling off of it. I like the types of text where people can picture the character doing the actions. There's what I'm having problems with. I'm a quick learner to begin with. I always take criticism and advice from anyone to improve my skills. |

Theres plenty who teach fighting. <3 And theres a thread about it floating around here somewhere.
My little nugget of advice is to not let anyone in the RP world here poke and push you around with their opinions. RP here isnt a life or death game. it is not homework, just have fun. <3 |

Well welcome to the RP world of imvu, and I myself am an RP Vet of 13 years, going on 14. IMVU has it's pros and con's with rping and I will begin by telling you what we have and my experience with each RP Category.
First you will notice there are tons of Empires or Kingdoms, I used to be in a few and in all honesty I would never get back into them, so much drama involving other kingdoms and some people take it so seriously that it goes from being an RP to drama outside RP and into the real world. I used to be an Emperor for a kingdom awhile back, way way to much drama and I am an old school RP'er, to me RPing is supposed to be fun with friends like playing D&D without the xp charts and all that. The best part about the empire I was in was I met a girl there who I fell in love with in real life and now we live together, for 2 people on imvu first meeting then bring it to real life, make it work and fall deeply in love is extremely great ^^
Now for the RP fighting portion, there are 6 fighting styles T1 to T6, everyone on imvu who knows how to fight use T1 and T2, T1 being para-posting. Be really careful with RP fighting, I have seen people so serious that if you "die" in the RP fight they will tell you Out of Character that you need to delete your account or change your name, if you don't they will go around and cause all sorts of drama for you... We don't want that... I had a friend turn away from RP coz of it... ><
Then you got a few handful of people like me who do Storyline based rp's; I myself love fantasy-medieval genre of RPing. Me and a group of friends go into a Private Chat, think of a story like 4 kingdoms at war and we play main characters of one city. Now I am a multi-character RP'er meaning I play 10+ characters either in 1 RP session or in general so I have lot's of different races and I love to be able to create my own stuff. My suggestion is find what you are comfy with, if you're in to Kindoms or rp Fighting then more power to you, but turn away quick if things turn sour... which it can... imvu can hold some of the biggest RP Babies ever... <_<; lol if you have any more questions or anything you wanna ask feel free to ask. ^^ I am happy to help. _________________ |

Welcome to the forums and to rp! ^_^
I'm neko, I'm still a little Newby myself, but i'll happily show you anything I know, anytime. ^_^
As for fighting, check the rules on imvu rp kills. I'll try and dig up that thread about fights for you, and you can pick the style that suits you, or whichever rp you are in best ^_^ |

I prefer the group RP myself. If you go into the groups section, there is a roleplay subsection you can check out. You can also search for words and if you put 'roleplay' in as an interest, you might get invites from time to time. Then it is weeding through and finding a group you are compatible with.
I have not found room RP to feel very lasting, but it works for others so definitely give it a try. Again a search in public rooms should pull up a bunch of rooms for you to check out. If a room does not suit you, just go find another one. There are plenty to choose from, or you could even make your own if you are willing.
As for RP fighting, that will come when you find a good group to play with and fits your style. You do not have to learn a particular style, but if you are looking to expand upon your experiences, I just have one tip: A thesaurus. You can only say 'swing' so many times before it becomes gigglingly silly. Aside from that, adjectives are your friends. Also describing your reaction to the other person's attempts, provides the give and take in RP to flesh out a fight scene. _________________

As it stands I haven't created a room RP that hasn't lasted less than three years.
My longevity rooms are - Dresden Files and Vintage Village. Dresden Files has been around for a few years. It's a contemporary room if you want to check it out but it's not a nightly thing anymore, more like two or three times a week. And Vintage Village which has lasted slightly over half a year now and hopefully will continue for some time. _________________

For group role plays only ~ Journey beyond to an place of magic. Where imagination runs while and stories never heard are told. Enter into an realm where anything is possible. Create your own legion or play in one. The choose is yours.
All whom dare to enter and whom can role play come to Dark undying kingdoms realms an group made for creative role players
