The early planning for a Dev Con 2013 is underway. The dates are not set in stone at this point, but we are looking at August 8 - August 11. This is Thursday through Sunday, with the actual meat of the convention being the 9th and 10th.
The way we are looking at this, the first day will allow for people to get there and get settled. Nothing major planned, but there will be dinner and drinks that night as a kind of "Meet and Greet."
The 9th will be all about the developers. We will be having several developers presenting different subjects, techniques, etc.
The 10th is going to be software and hardware. We will be having representatives coming in from many different software companies to present their software and demonstrate its importance in regards to developing on IMVU. There will be vendor booths set up where those who attend the Con will be able to purchase licensed software at steeply discounted prices. We are also looking into certain hardware companies sending in their own representatives, with the end goal being a lottery giveaway of a fully loaded laptop that will come with all the presented software pre-installed and registered.
The final day will simply be a wrap-up of the entire convention, with a couple of guest speakers, and a banquet lunch to end it all.
From the feedback I have gotten so far, this is promising to be a wonderful convention... lots of fun, with a few fabulous little secrets thrown in that will be unveiled at the Con. Considering that IMVU is located in Mountain View, CA... just minutes from San Jose, we have selected that area as the location for the convention. The actual location will be announced upon confirmation, as most locations won't do reservations more than a year in advance.
I'm posting this here because I'd like to get feedback from the IMVU community and hear what you guys would like to see come out of a convention, and maybe touch on some topics that you would like to see addressed there. What I just outlined is the skeleton of the plans, and now we're working to fill out the actual meat of the project. Comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome! _________________

How is the planning going so far for this event? Is it still scheduled to take place in San Jose?
Thank you. _________________ Varsha - Sr. Manager Community Experience |

Thank you very much, hun! I've already done a TON of the legwork with a very dear friend of mine helping out enormously. It's coming together rather well, and the interest is HUGE. It's a great area, and the local attractions should be just as much of a draw as the event itself. Not to mention it's just minutes away from IMVU HQ. _________________

@Bri - You better be! :]
Also, you wanted suggestions.. I've seen that things are going to be elegant. Maybe we could have a "formal" dinner the way they do on cruise ships. It's really relaxing and fun to chit-chat with everyone. _________________ DP by YukineL |

One thing I'd like to point out is that this is NOT an IMVU exclusive Dev Con. It's a Silicon Valley Developer's Convention for the 3D platform. This includes IMVU, SL, NuVera, There, and all the gaming platforms. While IMVU may be the strongest presence there, they will most certainly NOT be the ONLY presence there. We will be selling tickets to the Con for Friday and Saturday on a first-come first-serve basis to the general public. So whether you are a part of the IMVU community or not, you may still want to come, as there will be a lot of very diverse content available for everyone from the hobbyist to the experienced pros. Even people who have NO experience with graphic design will be invited to come and see how it all works. _________________

This is being held before the beginning of the school year, and it`s over a year away. If it`s a possibility for you, we`d love to have you! _________________

One of the great things about the Dev Con in my opinion is that it DOES cater to all forms of digistal creativity and does not limit itself to just IMVU and the more famous of creators. It's for everyone that has an interest!
We were talking about this last night actually and another point was brought up. Yes, it's over a year away, but, I for one am glad it is as it gives me the time to earn/save and plan on projects that will help me get there and ENJOY IT without being strapped for cash. Don't give up hope and if there is a will there will be a way, lol. _________________

One concept we've been playing with is allowing people to do a "layaway" payment plan for the tickets. tHis would allow people to make a deposit on the tickets, and then add money as they go to pay for it. THat way you wouldn't have to shell out the $300 all at once. I figure if we open registration in June or July, that should be plenty of time for people to be able to pull everything together without breaking the bank. _________________
