Ohmy.
Still laughing at what I did read in this thread
Imvu didn't implement any encryption. all they did is a simple file extension rename. No fancy tools are needed. Just pres F2 and rename the file properly. There is 0 security in CM _________________

I never knew you could extract your textures lol man that would have saved me a bit of puter space. I have every single texture I have ever used or made sitting in files. lol Whoda thunk IMVU had a way for me to do that. _________________

Ever since day 1 of the old previewer the Codes/Scripts in the Software always has used the names "Designated by the Appropriate .XRF File" to Identify the Textures in a Product. So switching the File Name and File Extension of a Texture is not something New that was Introduced with Create Mode. The thing that was new to Create Mode was the Automatic Downloading of the Users Own Assets into the IMVU Projects Folder to replace the Previewers "Extract" Button.
All that CM did was make it harder to use it as a way of Acquiring Other Peoples Textures - if you want to blame somebody for the fact that "Texture Theft" still goes on then have a go at IBM and Apple for Designing PC's that made it possible and every other PC manufacturer since for continually including that Design Flaw in every PC, Laptop, Notebook and Tablet. _________________

Thanks to everyone for chiming in.
I had been trying to simply change the file extension by renaming the item as that had worked for me in the past when I encountered similar situations. That wasn't working for me which was why I posted.
After reading this, I tried another approach. I opened the item with software other than photoshop and did a "save as". After that I was able to open the file in photoshop.
I assume the company did change something, but the work arounds posted here helped me a lot.
for those who didn't know, in CM...along the top of the page is a small icon that looks like files, click there when you have your item open in CM. _________________ Behold The Splendor-Available NOW

There is no flaw in those design. It's up to the user to apply they adequate security.
What you are saying here, is like every house builder is responsible to close the door for the people who live in those house. _________________

I think it's a design flaw, not something meant to protect files. |
Of course it is _________________

I was messing around with it the other day (I didn't know it was possible until I read in the forums) and I extracted some poses I made, they work fine in the client but the .xaf file I had made them only last for 1 second.
I didn't need them so I wasn't too bothered it's just a bit annoying if the files you extract are working differently to the original. _________________

BabyAwesome there is a very simple way to retrieve your own textures. Go to your product page and click edit product when it opens don't change anything click "save as" set the destination to your desktop. Name it and save. Now look at your desk top and there will be a file with the name you created. Inside will be your texture. This only works with YOUR products... products created by anyone else will have an empty assets folder created.
ETA
Its the same folder you found at the top of CM. _________________ |
