Hi :) I actually made a few pairs of shoes recently, and I used to think it was the hardest thing there was, haha. This may not be the most efficient way of doing things, but it worked for me ^.^
If you're wanting to edit using the texture map, open it in PS then create a new layer. On the new layer, outline all of the different parts (heel, sides, bottom, etc.) Now for the fabric textures.. those can take forever doing it entirely my hand, which is why there are photoshop patterns! Like these: http://webtreats.mysitemyway.com/8-tileable-fabric-texture-patterns/
It's easy to find patterns for photoshop for nearly anything'. Just google "photoshop textured fabric pattern", "photoshop polka dot patterns", etc.
If you don't know how to add patterns to PS, it's easy too. Just download the file (unzip if you have to), and in PS go to Edit>Preset Manager>Patterns>Load>Done and now they're in there! Use the fill bucket tool and change the setting from foreground to pattern, and select the pattern you want to use, and fill in the area! After that, you may need for shadowing and highlights, depending on the texture and the shoe. That's easy too.. Just create a new layer and use black and white, play around with blur and opacity, and there's your shadows/highlights.
NOW, for that swirly design you wanted to incorporate with your design.. Open it in PS>Select All>Edit>Copy go into your texture map and create another layer then ctrl-v to paste it on there. Again, depending on what it is, you can play around with the settings such as overlay, multiply, color, saturation, etc. to make it blend perfectly :) Same goes with changing colors and stuff.
I really hoped this helped.. I'm still learning myself, so there may be easier and more helpful answers out there, but I decided to share my input since nobody else has posted yet. Good luck!! |

Using your examples you could take the mapping of the shoe given and scale it down from 512 x 512 to be 256 x 256 which is the max size IMVU uses in squares (256 x 512 or 512 x 256 max in rectangles) all other larger sizes will get automatically resized by IMVU.
Next you could put your texture and the texture map in the same drawing. I would also suggest using a texture you created not something from google because you may be infringing on a copywrite. Then you can use the original texture as a guide as to how to place things on your new texture.
For example you could trace the red shoe with the lasso tool and then "layer via copy" the new texture. place that above the original texture layer. Play with the filters and find something like this canvas texture and add it. Then add a piece of trim some shading and highlighting and voila... a new texture map. This is just the start then you can alter the rest of the map also. But this should show you how it could be started.
But you can make your own textures also ... I'll drop a homemade "houndstooth" on to show an example.
I'm in much less danger of someone screaming about me stealing this one since it was made from my own made from scratch pattern. However... keep in mind... the rest of the texture map should also be redrawn to your own unique product also...
You can find LOTS of Tutorials on how to create textures Here. _________________ |
