do you want to learn how to make smooth, soft looking hairs with a unique texture? i have a well detailed tutorial that will take you step by step in making a great texture. it is thorough, it includes pictures, and the steps are fairly easy to follow.
im not sure if this will work in gimp... x.x there's a certain tool i used in this tutorial that might not be available in gimp i believe. however, i might be able to make a different tutorial for gimp later on.
here are some hair samples made with using this tutorial:
i changed my miind, this tutorial will be free for everyone 8D
CLICK THESE LINKS; the images are way to large to be posted in the forums!
Steps 1-3
Steps 4-7
Steps 8-10
Steps 11-13
if you get stuck on a step, i'll gladly be able to help you . hope you enjoy it _________________

But Photoshop can be translated for GIMP. GIMP probably has a similar thing. |

Idk how to translate between the two. I have used GIMP before it's confusing to me >.> Even if it is similar, I stick with photoshop. _________________ "It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for something you are not."

I use both. I prefer GIMP since Photoshop confuses me to death. Specially since I'm so used to GIMP, lol. Been using it for two years, while Photoshop... ehh... 3 months? Lol
Going to investigate though what fibers is on GIMP |

Gimp does not have the fibers command but after looking through quite a few pages here are some examples of what you can do instead of the fibers command. The very bottom of the page has what is probably the best tut to follow it uses solid noise and ripple.
I'm thinking if you did the solid noise (without adding the ripple or anything) and played with the contrast you can get a very similar effect. Then use it as an overlay on the hair color you like or use the color as an overlay to the pattern. Try using the gray scale pattern set to overlay or multiply maybe even screen play with layer settings and see what you like. Then add the shadow and shine like in the tut above.
Oh, and BTW Great tut Glossy! _________________ |
