That's because some of those points are in the spare metrics.
For future reference:
Spare metrics DO NOT count.
There are 5 unique metrics, but only the top 3 count towards your points. These 5 are interchangeable.
You can get up to tier 3 by maxing out your unique metrics (you can get 9 pts without any sales)
Tier 5 is manageable without meshing (cutoff for pro) but you need a ton of sales
Tier 7 (highest) is only possible if you mesh/have a lot of derives
Core metrics are you compared to all other developers. The numbers WILL change, though they typically stay at a certain range.
Hope that helped!

You are most likely adding up your s[pare metrics as well the values in that section do not count to your level. _________________

Another thing to remember also is there are no set numbers to gain a point in each metric as the numbers are always changing.
Yes PR does count towards your tier scores but only if the PR metric is in your Unique metric. Same with forum posts and so forth.
If you have totally maxed out your Unique metrics...have 3 points in all three areas, there is nothing else you can do in that area to get your tier up. It's all up to sales from then on.
Also just because you have gone up say a tier a month, doesn't mean you will keep going up. It's not a given thing, and it can also go down if you don't have so many sales or don't do as much PR or posting. Getting to tier 4 is quite easy and you can do that without making a huge amount of sales. Getting to tier 5 and above is where your sales come into it. _________________

To put it simply Sales (direct) are sales made directly from your catalog when some one buys an item straight from you. This is as opposed to Sales (indirect) which are sales made in the catalogs of others on an item that they have derived from you by means of one of your mesh(es) if you had any.Hope that makes sense to you. _________________

There are 2 types of sales ..
1. Direct - you direct sales
2. Derived - sales on your mesh derived by other.
Suppose, If you mesh a product and I derive from your mesh and if I sell 1 copy . you will get 1 derived sale and I will get 1 direct sale.
Hope I am understood
Edit : oops sorry sherlando . didnt see you . Or maybe I am too slow. _________________
