I have another avi that I role play on and one of my friends and I were talking about our personas. I explained that when I first joined IMVU and my RP Vampire Coven, I had no wish to be a vampire, nor did I wish to fight anyone.
I was continually attacked another role player, and this player eventually "bit" me trying to turn me into a vampire. To protect my character, the patriarch created a bio for me to use called a "feeder human". Gods were asked by the heads of the coven to protect my character against the transformation. The process left my character with all of a vampire's strengths such as immortality and none of the weaknesses such as the hunger for blood. (LOL As it was explained to me... a perfected version of Blade.) But there was a HUGE catch. I had to remain pure of heart to keep my abilities. I could not actively join into any dangerous situation or it would be considered a form of suicide in the eyes of the Gods. But if anyone attacked me without my consent I would be resurrected. Even from obvious and complete destruction. My main role in the Coven was a regenerative food source for the hierarchy. That was also part of the deal, which I didn't mind much.
I explained this to my friend and he said that it was a form of God Moding and many hard core RPers would not accept my character bio. From my knowledge of god moding, a character who shows absolutely no forms of weakness is god moding. My character has a weakness and I inform any group I participate in what my bio is.
But now, I am wondering if this is a form of god moding. Any feed back would be helpful.

I personally do not see it as godmodding. Your character has a weakness, and the people who are roleplaying with see no problem with it. In my opinion, anyone can play whatever character they want, they just have to find the proper place for it. Just because I personally do not want to play against something does not mean that a person can not play that character at all. It is your character, so play it how you wish.
Also, I feel the person who was constantly attacking your character, and trying to change them without your permission was godmodding. I think it is a big no-no to do something to someone's character without their permission, especially if they specifically ask you not to do it. _________________

I don't see godnmod. But if your character has only one weakness, and you don't tell other players what that one singular weakness is, it can be kind of god moddy.
For example, if you make a man out of imvincible armour and cannot die and so fourth unless you do a tango, cut his head, then his forearm, then his leg in that order....Kind of godmoddy.
If thei'r weakness is something normal like...
I don't know. Water, Or their belly, then I think it's fine. |

| God moding does not always mean "With no weaknesses." For some people it could mean the weakness is too generic or "not much an actual weakness that an enemy could actually use against you". For example "I have to remain pure of heart" doesn't sound like an actual physical limitation as much as it's an emotional one. I would suggest giving her a vulnerability to some phsyical elemnt the way faeries are vulnerable to iron. |

Yes, if you OOCly ask someone not to do something, I, personally, would respect it. And yes, what they did could be considered god moding. By the way, not all forms of vampires are turned with a mere bite. Bram Stoker's vampires and Anne Rice's would-be-vampires have to drink the vampire's blood first. |

I dont see this as a god mode.
According to the urban dictionary, god mode is defined as the following:
| Quote: | God Mode
1. A cheat in many video and computer games that typically renders the player invulnerable.
2. In roleplaying, when one player speaks or acts as another player or group of players or causes them to feel or think certain things without their consent, or resolves a situation without input from a game master or moderator.
1. The end boss kept one-hitting him so he turned on god mode and rushed it with his axe.
2. The player was banned after godmoding a combat situation which resulted in another player's death without giving him opportunity to react.
God Mode
A term in gaming that generally means the player has 'godlike' power in the game, for example infinite health or ammo.
I gotta turn on god mode, I'm dying! |
Your character is vulnerable, therefore I do not see it as a god mode. Granted, it can be seen as too easy to avoid injury, but then again, I'm not one for necessarily playing injury anyways. I dont aim to kill someone else's character, ergo, them creating a character that hard to kill doesnt bug me.
What the OTHER person did, however, does seem like a god mode and I wouldnt have accepted that unless I wanted to. _________________
