Many people dislike them, they're extra work to make & there're also Health & Safety issues surrounding them because of the speed of the animations for those who suffer from migraines & seizures, some of them life threatenting
However, we are encouraged to use them & told they make our products more attractive & stand out more
As the main points of the discussion so far can be seen in Ludvik's thread, I recommend reading it before commenting here
What are your thoughts tho'?
Do you like them?
Do they make you more or less likey to shop with a particular developer?
How would any of us deal with the situation outlined already should it come to it?
If you use them, why do you use them?
Do you see them as an important part of your marketing strategy?
Does the fact that they have been proven to cause others harm affect how you see them?
Are you willing to change to much slower/non-aminated icons in order to protect the health & safety of others?
If not, why not?
Fixes to stop animations in your browser

solution for fire fox users
In Mozilla Suite and Firefox:
1. In the Location Bar type about:config and hit Enter
2. Type "anim" in the Filter field (to quickly find the needed preference)
3. Double-click the image.animation_mode line and edit it to one of the following:
none — will prevent image animation
once — will let the image animate once
normal (default) — will allow it to play over and over
In addition to this I would like to post the following:

Pressing ‘ESC’ key will pause animated GIF’s on a page. This works in both Firefox and Internet Exploiter. Note: in order to ‘resume’ the animation you will need to refresh/reload the page.
Firefox users have some additional options via an about:config tweak:
1. In a new tab type about:config in the address bar and press enter
2. In the filter field type animation
3. In the results listed double-click on image.animation_mode
4. In the pop-up box type in one of the following:
* none — will prevent image animation
* once — will let the image animate once
* normal (default) — will allow it to play over and over
This has helped me ALOT and saved me many migraines, it's a very very useful tool however, it is sad that I have to use it in the first place. _________________
I only have very few animated icons for my catalog. I believe only 5 in entire catalog. In doing so, I tried to make animation slow so not disturbing to the eyes.
I prefer static icons when shopping and it is very hard to shop developer page that is nothing but flashing icons. I will continue to use static icons for my own catalog. I only used my animated ones for very specific products and reasons. If it is disturbing, please let me know. _________________

Thanks Shads
Triad slow ani's are ok...it's the fast, brightly coloured ones that cause harm.....also if you put your ani's on a very dark/black bg that should help loads _________________
i find that animated icons that go quickly are highly annoying, and to be honest you cant even see what they are trying to show most of the time, if they were all nice and slow, maybe 1 frame a second then it wouldnt be to bad, and most people would be able to atleast see what they are thinking about buying
I really hate bright, flashing icons - they give me headaches and make my eyes hurt
They're enought to make me think twice about browsing that developer's catalog ever again - if it's full of those icons.
But nice, slow icons are ok _________________ MyCatalog

Thanks for your input Silky & yours are mostly fine (I didn't run screaming from your cat page as soon as I hit it) as they fade rather than 'flash' & they're not full of bright colours _________________
I don't like the ones that "wow" ya...and if they change from a front to a back to a side to a logo to a house to the sky etc. THOSE just make me close a catty page. _________________

Wolfie why do you have a problem with icons being checked for animations?
There are guidelines already set out in the Health & Safety standards of the majority of Western Countries that state clearly what does & does not cause harm....
Are you saying that you'd feel comfortable about Aylanight, for example, fitting & hurting herself because nobody cared enough about this issue to deal with it in an adult & professional manner?????
I did ask that the othe 2 threads be read before people commented here....it's vital that the matter be fully understood if things are to progress on this _________________
