Hello

Proper thinking that is expressed cogently can attract me like
pheromones.

I strive for it myself, debate and harangue to hear it, judge and
dismiss others for its absence. I frequently am judged and dismissed
myself because of my demand for proper thinking expressed cogently.

This article took me back to the ultra giddiness I felt for a fire
fighter's trade show in the mid 80s. A ten-thousand seat coliseum was
filled with life-saving equipment, things people had invented to make
life better for strangers. I don't remember feeling this way more than
once, since.

This article captures wonder.
This article appreciates the abundance available only to our generation.
This article reminds me that humans can be noble creatures; we can
invent things that heal as well as harm.
This article turned my day from rainy gloom, to happy and hopeful joy.

All that, and it's well-written, too.

Hammered by Elizabeth Bear
Discovered this fiction in a websearch for Molly Millions, my favorite character in William Gibson's cyberpunk. "Move over Molly" was too provacative to ignore. Although I'm still in the first quarter of Hammered, I find the character Jenny to be extremely well captured, and the writing to be both easy to read and thought provoking. The turn of a phrase is memorable, staying with me even when I'm not holding the book.

Making Peace with Autism
A strikingly true description of life by the mother of a 15-year old autistic son. Mine is 6. I find her son is similar to mine, in quality, yet more severe in degree. I know the things she describes are true for my son too, but I don't see them as often or with the same severity. It's a solid description of the family experience, something that's lacking and needed in the human library.

I have a great boss
.
In my career i've been working for all types: scared, dominating, inconsiderate, dictating. Any kind of bad trait, i'm pretty sure i have a boss who had it. But then the reverse is true, too: confident, considerate, receptive, smart. Been there; done that.
.
My current boss is proactive. If he hears of a problem, he wants to fix it immediately. if i have a work in progress, i have to say nothing about it, or my boss will think there's a roadblock, and get rid of it. This was actually hard to get used to, but now i am. In addition, my current boss backs up his people every time. If there's a problem, he addresses it internally, not in front of other departments. We present a unified face to the company.

I could work for this guy, a long time.
